Nottingham City Transport to retrofit 180 buses with Baumot technology to reduce toxic emissions and improve air quality
June 2018, Nottingham City Transport (NCT) will be retrofitting 180 buses with Baumot’s high-quality BNOx system to reduce toxic emissions. To sustainably improve the air quality in Nottingham City buses are to be converted to the Euro VI emission standard by spring 2020 latest. NCT is a leading bus operating company which has very strong green credentials and is committed to operating its fleet the most environmentally friendly way possible.
Gary Mason, Engineering Director, Nottingham City Transport commented: “We are committed to meeting the Governments stringent Air Quality Controls and we are always looking to move towards more sustainable transport. Over 16% of our fleet is Bio-Gas which is the greenest on the road and all our fleet will be upgraded with technology that reduces emissions by 90% by 2020, this will see all NCT buses meet Euro VI standards. After careful consideration of products in the market we selected the Baumot BNOx system due to the innovative approach in its exhaust aftertreatment, providing a best-in class solution to upgrade our Euro V buses.”
Bert Pierlings, Managing Director, Baumot UK, commented: “We are very proud to have won this contract and its significant for us in the UK market. NCTs commitment to environmental issues and their green credentials highlights the merits of selecting our technology to help them meet the forthcoming Governments emission standards. “
Baumot’s technology removes Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) and particulate (PM) emissions from vehicles. NOx and PM air pollutions cause a large number of premature deaths which can be cost effectively prevented with BNOx system. The system is certified to the demanding CVRAS process (CVRAS: Clean Vehicle Retrofit Accreditation Scheme) which complies with the requirements of the Energy Saving Trust in the UK.
BNOx combines SCR + DPF system to upgrade older buses, the technology can be retrofitted to EURO III, IV, V and EEV buses and achieves emission levels better than EURO VI allowing for rapid conversion of an operator’s fleet to the latest emissions standard cost effectively.
How BNOX works
The BNOx system comprises a BNOx (ammonia) generator that converts standard AdBlue (DEF) on board on demand into Ammonia gas. The NH3 gas is then metered directly into the exhaust line. As a result of this operating principle, no function-critical hydrolysis in the exhaust gas stream is required (unlike other conventional SCR systems).
WebConnect – Emission Tracking and Reporting
As well as the BNOx system, Baumot are helping fleet operators manage vehicles, by offering a system (WebConnect) to monitor exhaust aftertreatment system installed on vehicles and the NOx reduction performance in real time. Giving operators 24/7 access to tracking the vehicle and real-time information of the NOx emissions.
